How I Became a Mushroom Cultivator: My First Trip and the Path That Found Me

Before I ever tripped, I was curious. Curious about the potential of mushrooms—not just for the visuals or stories I’d heard, but for something deeper. I had a feeling they could teach me something about myself. What I didn’t know at the time was that this curiosity would lead me not just to a powerful spiritual experience, but to a calling.
The Beginning: Searching for the Right Experience
When I finally made the decision to take a trip, I ordered some mushrooms from someone off Facebook. I didn’t know what to expect, so I started small with about 1.5 grams. I was also sipping on some hard kombucha, which might’ve interfered, but honestly… I didn’t feel anything.
So, I waited three days and tried again. This time I ate 3.5 grams—still nothing. At that point I was like, Did bro just sell me some shiitake mushrooms or something? I was frustrated, confused, and starting to feel like this whole thing might be a myth.
Later on, I grabbed some from a lady, but the quality was trash. I didn’t even want to eat it.
Turning Point: Growing My Own
That’s when everything changed.
Someone I was with at the time mentioned they knew a guy selling mushroom grow kits. I said f** it, let’s try it.* We picked up an all-in-one grow bag with Golden Teacher spores. It was a gamble—spores are known to be a bit dirty compared to using liquid culture—but I took the risk.
To my surprise, my very first attempt at growing mushrooms was a success.
I was hyped. This time, I was determined to really feel it. Since the previous 3.5 grams hadn’t done anything, I went in with 5 grams. At this point, I was still smoking weed, so I’m hitting the blunt while chewing down the mushrooms. After 30 minutes, I still only felt the weed… so I took another 2 grams.
That’s when everything flipped.
The Trip: Seeing and Tasting the Music
I looked outside and saw a car—the grill looked like a funny cartoon face. I couldn’t stop laughing. My phone was dead, so I tried to go to my car to grab the charger. That little trip outside felt like an entire journey. Time was bending. When I made it back in, I turned on a song by Cambatta called “Magik.”
That’s when things got real.
I could see the music. It was spiraling upward like mushrooms growing toward the sky. The sound became a flavor. I was literally tasting the music. It was beautiful, but eventually, it became way too intense. I had to turn it off. That’s when the deeper journey began.
Ego Death & Truths I Couldn’t Ignore
I ended up laying on the floor, sinking into it like quicksand. The mushrooms started talking to me—telling me it was time to stop smoking weed. That I already knew the truth: weed today is mostly GMO, and smoke doesn’t belong in our lungs. No more excuses. Let it go.
Then it felt like I was dying—not physically, but something inside me was dissolving. I realized I was going through ego death for the first time. My mind was screaming, but my spirit was waking up.
When the wave passed, I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Lawwwd, why did I do that? I started seeing my skin move. A wolf was coming out of my chest. It caught me off guard so I shook it off and looked again, this time focusing on the shower curtain.
That’s when I saw it—the patterns transformed into a lion, then a gorilla, and then into a shamanic figure. The shaman spoke to me without words and let me know I had nothing to fear. I was protected. Highly protected.
The Mission: Cultivation as a Calling
That’s when the message came through.
The mushrooms told me I had a gift for cultivating. They said, We need your help to reach more people. They showed me that this wasn’t just about personal healing—it was about being a bridge. Since that moment, I’ve been all in. Foot on the gas. Cultivating and helping others experience the medicine that changed my life.
Closing Thoughts
This journey cracked me open. What started as a search for a trip turned into a calling. Magic mushrooms taught me lessons I couldn’t have learned any other way—about my health, my spirit, my ego, and my purpose. And I’m still learning every day.
If you’ve been curious, just know: the mushrooms meet you where you are. And if you listen, they’ll show you who you’re meant to be
